Financial Mail Supplements

RANKING THE ANALYSTS

The awards, in association with Iress, the JSE and the CFA Society SA, recognise SA’s top analysts in the institutional stockbroking industry.

The Financial Mail has been associated with the Top Analyst survey since 1975 — the only survey in SA that provides a reliable and independent ranking of skills in the industry.

The research, conducted by Intellidex, is estimated to cover 90% of the institutional market through confidential questionnaires completed by domestic institutional clients of SA stockbroker firms.

The annual supplement is keenly read by the entire asset management industry – from life insurers to hedge funds – to determine the best brains in the research business. We name the best researchers in the market as well as the best broking houses. Top analysts are announced in 48 research sectors as well as the best broking houses in various categories.

The published results, accompanied by analysis and commentary, will cover overall and sector-specific rankings.

MOTOR INDUSTRY

What a year this has turned out to be for the SA motor industry. Recovery from the Covid-induced domestic market collapse of 2020 has been robust. Exports have rebounded even better. A new motor industry policy was introduced on July 1 – the same day that motor companies and their dealers ordered to cede serve service and maintain work to independent workshops. Government finally announced its intention to encourage the manufacture and sale of electric vehicles (EVs). Movement towards a Pan-African free trade offered new opportunities for vehicle and components manufacturers. And Ford announced the biggest single investment in the history of the local industry. Too much to take in at once? Don’t despair. The Financial Mail’s 2021 Motor Industry Annual will make sense of it all. Interviews with key players, allied to expert analysis, will record the events, and explain the significance, of arguably the most important year in the generation for the motor industry.
