The Sunday Times, South Africa’s biggest selling weekend paper, has launched its own radio show. The broadcast extension of the paper offers exclusive content to its listeners and is presented by popular radio talk show host, David O’Sullivan.
The Sunday Times Show is aired on Times Media’s radio assets RISE FM and Vuma 103 FM. “This is an exciting initiative combining the power of traditional print media with the immediacy of radio. RISE FM, in Mpumalanga and Vuma 103 FM, in KwaZulu Natal are ideal partners for piloting this venture and TMG Radio is proud to be given this innovative role,” says Tony Mallam, Head of Radio for Times Media.
The Sunday Times Show is broadcast every Sunday from 9 -10am. It contains a mix of news and lifestyle content that includes exclusive, behind-the-scenes interviews, regular features and in-depth discussions with the Sunday Times’ journalists about the news stories in the paper.
Regular features on the show that listeners can look forward to include:
- The latest in motoring with motoring journalist, Thomas Faulkiner
- Consumer affairs with Power Report columnist, Megan Power
- The latest fashion trends with Fashion Weekly editor, Roxanne Robinson
- Décor and interior design with Home Weekly editor, Robyn Alexander
- The best features of the Lifestyle supplement
- Chats with Sunday Times sports journalists
- The ‘story behind the story’ debates around some of the paper’s top news headlines
Mike Robertson, Managing Director at Times Media says, “The Sunday Times will be the first paper in the country that will have a full dedicated show congruent with its publication. This is aligned with the integrated approach we are taking to create a multiple media platform for consumers, and advertisers, across all our assets in the print, TV, online and digital space.” Robertson adds that, “Eventually we aim to make the radio content available to other broadcasters to purchase.”
On joining the Sunday Times radio show, O’Sullivan says, “I’m very excited about this new venture with the Sunday Times. It is an opportunity to showcase on radio what is happening in the print world and provides the Sunday Times with an entertaining extension to its existing brand.”
The Sunday Times Show hits the airwaves on Sunday, 18th January. Listeners outside the broadcast areas can live stream the show from the RISE FM and Vuma 103 FM. The show will also be made available via podcasts uploaded on the Times LIVE website in the coming weeks.
