Johannesburg, 21 November 2016:The winners of Times Media’s Annual Recruitment Awards, the AMARA’s, were announced at a gala event at the Maslow Hotel in Sandton on Saturday 19 November. The AMARA ’s are the leading awards recognition for outstanding service and achievement in the South African recruitment industry, across both the public and private sectors.
Trevor Ormerod, GM Group Sales & Marketing at Times Media says the depth of talent that resides in the recruitment sector is one that deserves acknowledgement.“Individuals in this field are under tremendous pressure to deliver high quality candidates to businesses in SA. Their clients demand a high level of professionalism and commitment in support of their human  resource requirements. The role of recruitment professionals in helping businesses grow with the best calibre employees, needs to be celebrated.”
This year’s individual nominees, as well as entries in the print advertising categories were adjudicated by a panel of recruitment industry leaders: Natalie Singer (Chief Operating Officer, APSO); Alan Hosking ( Executive Editor, HR Future ); Welile Mabaso(Professional Designation Advisor, IPM); Nikki Munsie (Business Director, IAS) and Ross Mengel(Managing Director, DMA People).
In terms of the quality of this year’s advertising entries, the panel felt there was a significant improvement since 2015. The private sector in particular showed that a great deal more time and effort had gone into the creativity and wording of advertisements to make them more appealing, eye catching and engaging to attract strong candidates.
The panel agreed that an effective recruitment advertisement needs to show a clear layout that is easy to read, and has an eye-catching headline. The advertisement should mirror the professional image of the company and position advertised, and have the ability to speak directly to the appropriate target market. Importantly, it should be free from mixed metaphors or spelling errors.
